BIOSECURITY

Having assessed the major ways in which diseases may arrive on/leave your farm take action and reduce the risks by improving your farm’s biosecurity.

This will include:

  • Not bringing infection onto your farm, or spreading it around, by clothing, footwear or hands – so have clear and strict hygiene protocols
  • Keeping a closed herd where possible
  • Knowing the health status of any animals you are buying in
  • Having a robust quarantine protocol for new arrivals
  • Preventing contact with neighbouring livestock, e.g. maintaining fences
  • Making pressure washers, brushes, hoses, water and disinfectant available, and making sure visitors use them
  • Maintaining clean and effective dosing and injecting equipment, such as Sterimatic vaccinators
